Persona Q2 (3DS), a Persona 3 dancing game (PS4/Vita), and a Persona 5 dancing game (PS4/Vita) were just announced. Not surprising, as there were the domain name changes and rumors earlier this week, and Atlus even said that they'd do a P3 dancing game if the P4 one sold well. So, thoughts?

I'm stoked about PQ2. I loved the first one, and this one includes the P5 cast. I'm just wondering... how. There were already too many characters in the first, admittedly. Not sure if this will still include both the 3/4 cast. I hope it's just an entirely new crossover story, too, as the Zen/Rei thing was wrapped up.

The P3 dancing game was one I was hoping for since the Atlus rumor. Give me Strega, at least DLC, damn it! If 4 got Adachi, I don't think that's too much of a stretch. Given P3's soundtrack, I think it'll work well. And hey, new character designs for the old cast. Also, I get to resurrect my Vita from the grave.

The P5 dancing game is also not a surprise, given that there was a literal dance costume DLC set. The MC's outfit is different than the one in that set, though. I hope Yusuke still gets the galaxy leggings.

Those match up with some older trademark filings, too. Probably means an Arena for 5 is also coming eventually.

I wouldn't be surprised if Q2 is just 4/5 guys, or mostly 5 with 3/4 cameos somewhat more minor than they were in the first Q. Trying to cram all three full casts in there at once with possible OCs on top would just be a mess.

I doubt I'll ever play any of these but I look forward to seeing all the stuff that comes from them and your reactions.

Gotta say, P3's characters look like a million bucks in this style.

Sigh, okay, remake Persona 3.

Yeah, I'd play P3 again if it looked like that. Plus a remake on that scale would probably be using P5's combat and fusion systems. Massive upgrades across the board.

Having the best version of P3 being the PSP weird visual novel-esque thing also doesn't sit well with me.

A lot of people are talking about that so I hope the people at Atlus are poking around and reading all these comments...

So I purposely ignored this thread for months because I didn't want anything spoiled. Regrettably, due to my dissertation, I convinced myself that I didn't have much time to play games and even when I did, I was burnt out. Suffice it to say, Persona is one of a handful of series that I rush out to buy, but I shelved Persona 5 for about 4 months.

Irma wreaked havoc on Florida, but I had electricity the entire time. Due to the fact that campus was closed for 10 days (10!), I was able to take the time to catch up on some games. Persona 5 got the nod. It is absolutely marvelous.

Maybe I'll do some sort of walkthrough in my second playthrough, but for now, I have made it to the treasure room in Okumura's Spaceport. I completed the palace in one calendar day, but I ended up using quite a few resources, including my lone Soma. There were times when I actually groaned during this palace because it was chaotic, hectic, cheap, and taxing. (Really, Persona? A portion of this dungeon required you to go through three rounds of sub-bosses, and you had to pick the right individual three times? GTFO!) Nevertheless, I persevered.

Yeah, that palace is a bitch. I hated the airlocks, too. Glad you finally got to play it!

I dunno if it's the same for the PS3 version, but on the PS4 there's a free DLC pack that will get you a Soma and some other items if you need them.

I hated the first part of that Palace but loved the airlock section. I'm weird. I guess after fighting those damned minibosses and dealing with timed gates in the first part, anything feels like an improvement. All in all that's probably the worst Palace.

So Kawakami's storyline went from "tee hee hee" to "Are you serious, game?!" It's still on pause and I am weighing my options.

I guess it's finally time to ask about romances in Persona 5 since the game just decided to give zero fucks. Without spoilers, does the consequential Valentine's Day scenario mess up the game, or is it moreso the gut-wrenching guilt that you felt in Persona 4 during the same event?

No mechanical mess up, less in-your-face guilt-tripping but there's still some.

I never saw the P4 V-day cheater scene because I'm not a big ol' cheaty cheater like some cheating cheats, but I youtubed the P5 version and it comes off more comedic than dramatic, at least if you've got the full house. Maybe it's more personal if you only cheat once or twice.

You miss out on a good item that transfers to NG+ if you cheat. The item makes your social links rank up quicker (i.e. more points earned for each question that has points). Worth getting, in my opinion.

There's some free SMT sidescroller thing up on the (Japanese) Atlus site 'til late December. Originally just a joke, apparently now a real thing.

The Atlus store is now also online, with only P5 stuff so far: https://shop.atlus.com/

The plushes are tempting but I can't justify spending that much.

Yeah, 45 bones is a little steep, plus... they don't look very good? Maybe just me. But I feel like I could probably find better looking plushies on Etsy or something if I looked hard enough.

That Shujin hat would be cool but I hate the big flatbrim look that's been around for years now and just won't die. Give me a proper real-ass baseball cap goddamnit. The phone case is okay but I'm always paranoid about my phone slipping out of that style of folding case. Some of the shirts and hoods are cool but they all got a too much shit on the back.

me being picky about merch itt

Yeah, I share the same feelings on all of those. Eventually they'll have more stuff, I think. The only thing I'd get right now is the mug but I have so many fucking mugs already and I only use the same one every day, so why blow $20 on another?

I'm not going to put spoiler tags around this because I am the only person on the site (of this group) who hasn't finished the game yet.

So far, the game is amazing in every possible way, but I found myself coming to terms with the fact that the overall story feels somewhat weak compared to Persona 4. Last night, Akechi confronted me in Shido's palace and I have to admit that his entire storyline after his betrayal seemed abrupt at best and cliche at worst. I felt that there was an obvious pacing issue in that his appearance on TV to his confrontation in the palace to the big reveal that he could use the Wild Card skill to his death was resolved way too quickly. Nevermind the fact that we could see his betrayal coming a mile away (and his father is a bland villain at the moment as well), what made me ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ and ultimately move on was the fact that the game tried to make him a sympathetic character at the very end, despite how shitty of a person he truly was. Maybe this could have been mitigated with a social link narrative that spoke to his characterization, but when even Haru states, "Join us, Akechi!" even though he killed her father, I can't help but think that Atlus didn't really know how to conclude this portion of the story without problems. If he was supposed to be Joker's rival, it didn't really go anywhere.

Ah, well. Just my two cents. Looking forward to finishing this weekend.

Yeah, I think I can agree with that. The Akechi angle really peaks with the trick you pull on him after/during the casino, and the huge infodump about how the trap worked and all the little clues they dropped for the player over the last several months.

Once that's done, Akechi is less of a character and more of a loose thread just waiting to be cut, and the writing doesn't quite go far enough to sell him as sympathetic enough that the Thieves would wanna risk saving his life, beyond basic compassion I guess. Even one dissenting voice in the squad could've gone a long way. Haru, maybe, given her personal stake, and how much she kinda needed a few moments of additional depth.

Persona 5 is one of the stronger stories in the series for me, or at the very least one of the most effective, but it's definitely not without its weaker spots and this is kinda one of them. That's bound to happen once your story breaks the 100-hour mark.

Agreed. Speaking of Haru, we can all agree she's the worst playable character. Aside from the fact that her Psio and Pierce skills are effective at times, she's just an afterthought that arrives far too late in the game. While her characterization certainly can't compete with the likes of Ryuji, Yusuke, Futaba, Ann, and Makoto, it seemed like Atlus was content with giving her nothing. That all being said, I'm not sure Hifumi would have been a suitable replacement. Hell, her story is almost as boring...
