[Deals] Late Stage Capitalism Discussion II

So, looks like Bethesda is going to be having a free weekend/massive sale for Fallout 4 on X-Box and PC. Personally, I'm kinda torn. On the one hand, how many copies of this game do I need? On the other hand, getting the PC version will blow wide the doors of modding. Decisions, decisions...

Might wanna check out the Fallout 4 Nexus and see how many mods you wanna try. If the answer ends up being "a lot" then I'd say go for it if the price is right.

https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4

At this point there's so many mods it's kinda hard to keep track of 'em all. I don't remember what my mod loadout looked like but I probably dropped a few good recommendations in the Fallout thread.

e: mods will at least give you a stupidly large amount of new fashion options - many good, many bad, many just plain horny. I remember liking a few weapons mods like the grenade launchers people imported from New Vegas. There are a couple of nice companion overhauls and a whole lot of shitty ones. Some people have done really impressive things to the weather system. At least one guy modded the entire Commonwealth to resemble an overgrowth post-apocalypse instead of nuclear. There's mods to add the old-school Fallout soundtracks, mods to fix unpatched bugs, mods to "fix" things that never actually needed fixing.

Basically whatever people did to Skyrim they've probably also done to Fallout 4 by now. Case in point:

What Remains of Edith Finch is on the current PSN Sale, so I grabbed it. Don't need to wait around to play it. Also, grabbed Watch Dogs on PS4.

Considering I bought the Steam version on a Bundle with Gorogoa, I probably spent about the full $20 PSN price, so it's not so bad, I guess.

FREEBIES

On Humble, The Flame in the Flood is free for a day or two. I've had it in my library for a while but never gotten around to installing and playing it (go figure.) It's a really nice lookin' light survival game with... rafting? People seem to really like this one.

https://www.humblebundle.com/store/the- ... -the-flood

On Steam, Oddworld: Abe’s Oddysee is free until tomorrow. Maybe you played it on the PS1 decades ago, maybe you never knew there was a PC port until now. It's Oddworld, a sidescrolling platformer with farts. You probably already knew this.

https://store.steampowered.com/app/1570 ... s_Oddysee/

Where's my Tomba port, huh? Huh?

Here's a lot of PS4 stuff getting big discounts leading into E3.

https://arstechnica.com/staff/2018/06/d ... ead-of-e3/

Great time to grab Horizon Zero Dawn at $10 or $20 for vanilla or Complete respectively, or Nioh, Shadow of the Colossus, Uncharted 4, etc. Deals apply at both retail and on PSN.

I feel like Horizon Zero Dawn was recommended to me, but with my backlog and impending move, I can't really justify it.

Sony is rolling out a new Greatest Hits thing for PS4 games called, uh, Playstation Hits. Leaving nothing to chance there huh.

The following games will now be $20 everywhere (and by now I mean on June 28th, which is close enough to now, time is an illusion, time is the fire in which we burn), at both digital and retail, regardless of yer weird choices of national currency units:

Battlefield 4
Bloodborne
Doom
DriveClub
Infamous: Second Son
Killzone: Shadow Fall
The Last of Us Remastered
LittleBigPlanet 3
Metal Gear Solid 5: The Definitive Experience
Project CARS
Ratchet & Clank
Street Fighter 5
Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End
Yakuza 0
Yakuza Kiwami

It's nice to see Yakuza Kiwami on there 'cause it could presage the (as-yet unlisted) cost for the new Steam version assuming Sega wants to stay competitive on both storefronts.

The only three of those I'm interested in, I own. Still, nice for those that haven't bought them yet. They definitely need more titles, though.

Hmm, maybe that'll push me to check out Yakuza one of these days.

"I can't spend money, I'm moving soon."

*5 items on your Steam Wishlist are on sale*

"Fuck."

For anyone wanting to check out the Dangan Ronpa series, they're on sale on Steam right now. I'll probably pick them up later.

Got a promotional email from GOG. A bunch of JRPGS are on sale. If I weren't moving... fuck.

The Trails of the Sky and its sequels are all like half off. I've heard nothing but good things about that series. That said, this is PC, and I wanted them on the Vita to actually justify having that thing still. Probably can't find a deal like that even digitally for Vita, though.

Tokyo Xanadu eX+ is also 40% off. It's a game I've heard great things about and planned to get... but for PS4. So, I guess if you don't mind PC versions, check out the sale.

I picked it up, now just gotta decide if I should play it now or throw in on my stream pile, for the day I actually manage to stream something, fffff

I didn't realize 'til now that itch.io has a desktop app.

PSN is doing their Christmas sale stuff starting this week, I guess in five stages for five weeks, so whatever's discounted right now might be swapped-out on the 18th and so on.

WipeOut Omega Collection has a nice cut this week but I dunno if I'll jump on it. Might just wait to see if Yakuza Kiwami 2 goes on sale eventually.

All the other sales are starting to pop off now, too. Steam's Winter Sale is up, PSN has Week 2 of their thing and a flash sale going simultaneously, Humble, Itch.io, and so forth.

...

Yakuza 6 is 50% off on PSN but I haven't played 2/Kiwami 2, 3, 4, or 5 yet, so :pacdown

A couple freebies.

The former is a Bomberman-like, and apparently a pretty solid one. I know nothing about the latter but it feels like it'd be in a couple of yer wheelhouses.

If y'all don't have it already, the Humble Store is giving away Deponia Complete. Speaking of, I still need to play the second game on...

Tacoma is free on Humble for the next couple days. It was one of the best games of 2017. Go get it.

Also, Oxenfree is the Epic Store freebie for the next couple weeks. One of the best games of 2016. So, it's a pretty good day for free narrative adventure-y things. Go get that too.

There's a Golden Week sale on Steam. Gonna pick up Trails of the Sky for sure, and there are definitely others that I have my eye on that I didn't even realize Steam had.
