I'm ready go tonight. There's a party, alright. We don't need the raisin for joy, oh yeah. Tick down to midnight.

Grandia 1 & 2 are getting an HD facelift for the Switch.
https://gematsu.com/2018/08/grandia-gra ... ced-for-pc
Grandia 1 HD will also show up on the PC, which has already had the Grandia 2 remaster for ages.
I have no opinion on the original Grandia but Grandia 2 was probably the best RPG on the Dreamcast not called Skies of Arcadia. It's also the last good game/perhaps the only good game in the series, with Xtreme and Grandia 3 both being varying shades of awful, and then it died.

Grandia 1 is a great game. Will absolutely pick this up for Switch.

I remember the first Grandia being really slow going. Grandia 2 was a lot snappier so I finished that one

Sticking to RPGs for a moment, I've also been hearing good things about
Jimmy and the Pulsating Mass, an RPGMaker game carrying a heavy Earthbound inspiration.
https://store.steampowered.com/app/7065 ... ting_Mass/
And
Shenmue I & II is getting pretty much exactly the kind of reviews you'd expect. It's really all in the headline.
https://arstechnica.com/gaming/2018/08/ ... ke-school/
Back to the Switch, there's some really great indie picks on the way.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qNUSrhEEvL0
Windjammers! And a sequel!
Monster Boy and the Cursed Kingdom!
This War of Mine!
Everspace!
Moonlighter!
Night Call!
Terraria! Most of all of these are on Steam already or will be at the same time as the Switch versions, but Nintendo continues to be doing good work in this space.

Monster Boy looks pretty cool.
I didn't even think that his slow fall might have been because of the neighbors. I might have to replay that. Or, just watch someone else do so. I haven't been watching LPs much, lately.

I played all three main Grandias, and each time I thought the cast was really weak. I don't know why but the characters never clicked with me in that series. Did anyone else feel that way?

I always felt like the starting characters were pretty good, then they left and got replaced by wieners. Seriously, Sue and Dragonguy were pretty cool, then they get replaced by annoying Cowlady and Rapp. Thor, they sucked. 2 had a much better all around cast, thankfully.

I'd go so far to say Grandia 2's cast is kinda what made that game work, narratively speaking. The plot itself is nothing special. But the whole thing is uplifted by some good characters and an unusually strong localization for that era.
Grandia 2 is what the better Tales games are today, basically.

uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
Unfortunately this seems to be a somewhat enhanced port of the Master System original and not another remake attempt, or even a fresh port of the previous PS2 Sega Ages remake, and who knows if it'll leave Japan.
But the Switch eShop isn't region locked if I remember correctly. Switch getting all the certified bangers lately, huh.
PSI with difficulty settings and an automap feature might finally be playable for normcore RPG fans such as myself though

Here's
20 minutes of LiS2 gameplay which I may or may not watch, I haven't decided how cold to go into this thing yet.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s0B6fPNbXLI
I dunno how cold other folks wanna go into it either, so use spoiler tags.

Yeah, gonna go full cold from this point on. I know I want it. It's story heavy. Might as well go in without any extra info.

LiS2 is gonna be interesting for me... back in the day I played Ep 1 of LiS and then decided to hold off the rest till I could play them all in sequence, and it was amazing.
Do I have the patience to do that again?

I definitely do not, so I'll be hitting each episode of LiS2 as they drop. My initial experience with LiS, discovering it late and playing the whole series in one or two sittings, was kind of revelatory, but also an aberration.
Weird news: Square is pulling The Last Remnant from Steam for raisins as-yet unexplained.
http://www.siliconera.com/2018/08/24/th ... mber-2018/
Last time I saw something like this happen it was with Alan Wake over expired music licenses. Last Remnant is kinda bad, ain't no Alan Wake for sure, but it's such a bizarre game compared to the Square standard it might be worth picking up before the expiry as a curiosity piece if the price is right.

Oh shit.
https://youtu.be/M_bgPefCyfA
This is from Dotemu and Lizardcube, the folks who did the recent excellent Wonder Boy remake, so I'd say it's in pretty good hands.
Oh, and here's
48 minutes of Cyberpunk 2077 gameplay from Gamescom, and quite likely the same or similar closed-doors demo press folks raved about at E3.

I'm getting very, very heavy Mass Effect 1 vibes from the gameplay. And hey, that's great!

There's a bit of that in the character customization, otherwise (at only six minutes in over here, mind you) I think I'm getting a little more of a Bethesda-era Fallout vibe from the combat specifically, just with the overall fidelity amped up and everything animating a whole lot smoother, and just... a whole lot more going on in general.
ALSO maybe this goes without saying after previous footage and articles and whatever knowledge y'all might have on the original tabletop stuff but this gameplay demo is NSFW as hell so maybe don't watch it if yer in the office.

Nintendo ain't done yet.
https://youtu.be/UHzsecqX-zU
Some of these are new announcements, some are known upcoming ports just getting dates now, but they're all good gets.
Hyper Light Drifter in particular looks to be getting Switch exclusive content, Supergiant has both
Bastion and
Transistor on the way, and
Into The Breach is a big one with a surprise launch of, uh, today, actually.
Also coming to the Switch and everything else...
Onimusha?
