Oh. Well. Huh.

That was fast, and will be fast, with an Episode 1 date in September. I was kinda expecting to get a "coming soon" splash after the credits roll on Captain Spirit, but here we are with the first teaser and a date a little early.

Captain Spirit is up, as is the Steam page for Life is Strange 2. The 5-part season is a $40 USD preorder with bonuses. For now the Steam page is totally devoid of story or character details, but I'm pretty sure we can expect all that to be added when DONTNOD starts actually showing the game in August.

Oh, apparently the sequel to To The Moon is out? One of my YT LPers is playing it.

Played through Captain Spirit. I went with the best boy options, but man it seems you could play it dark.

I've definitely seen heds on some sites along the lines of "Captain Spirit is a 2-hour gut punch." I wonder how dark it really gets, being a one-shot/lead-in...

I'm gonna jump in cold on-stream around my usual bad time tonight/tomorrow morning so look forward to that maybe! Assuming I manage to sleep first. Ffff.

Having now gone dark, best boy mode definitely fits the narrative better. Highly Recommended.
Spoiler :
A lot of stuff that I thought would anger the father or that did anger him didn't actually result in any dressing down or shouting beyond just saying "hey stop that!" from his chair. Things like shooting him with the nerf gun were actually a nice moment rather than getting him angry, which actually makes him more likeable rather than less. Also walking in front of the TV during the game seemed an obvious thing to avoid, but it didn't matter at all.

Should I play Before the Storm first? I've got both downloading to my PS4 right now.

Edit: Decided to play BtS. Loving the Trash-talking stuff.

I would play BtS first, mostly because it closes out the Chloe/Max/Rachel content and keeps that all together. Captain Spirit is a prequel to the second season so playing that afterwards makes more sense because it leaves you hungry for more and helps you shift to thinking about who the new characters will be.

That's about as random a cameo as you can get.

Yesterday's leak of Shenmue 1 & 2's release date is now confirmed. August 21st, $30, all platforms sans Switch.

https://www.polygon.com/2018/7/3/175306 ... 4-xbox-one

New features include Japanese audio in all regions, new "modern" control schemes, HD resolution stuff with added postprocessing effects, save anywhere, new UI, cheevos, etc.

Maybe I'll get it on sale someday. That $30 will much more likely go towards Yakuza Kiwami's PC port whenever that hits.

Yeah. 30 is a little steep for me too. I'd pay that (and above) for a Kiwami-style remake but (as discussed on the previous Yakuza 0 stream), Shenmue I especially has problems.

(also I don't think anything in Shenmue I & II's actual plot is terribly compelling.)

Monster Hunter World will get its Steam version on August 9th for $60 USD which is more than I feel like spending.

Liking the cut of Phantom Doctrine's jib.

Kind of an espionage-y XCOM, or Cold War Shadow Tactics.

Nathan Fillion made an Uncharted fan film.

https://arstechnica.com/gaming/2018/07/ ... ial-video/

Naughty Dog and Sony were not involved so this shouldn't be taken as any kind of teaser-y indication of an official film.

I heard that an official film is being made, too.

To me it's still amazing that today's technology can make an amateur/fan film look so good.

Nathan Fillion is great, and the camera work on that shooting sequence was very well done, felt like gameplay.

I'm sorry. I just see Nathan Fillion. He doesn't sell the role for me.

Always good to see Ernie Reyes Jr, though.

Edit: Actually, Fillion is the most accurately cast of the three. That shooting section was pretty cool, but the whole video was rather "paint by numbers". Still, if it gets Sony off their butts...

They nailed the cutscene-to-gameplay camera transition in particular.

Oh, the Sonic Mania Plus DLC came out, and with it a physical edition for retail, which has a really sweet Genesis/Mega Drive reversible cover.

🤔

Putting aside the smartphone part for a second (ugh, whatever) that's totes Myau in the logo, which is maybe just as meaningless as the PSO logo having three planets in it, but... hey, cool, they remembered my main man Myau, that's neat.

Part of my brain sees the dude (?) in the horned helmet and wants to make a Lassic connection but nah that's probably more of a stretch.

Looks like a Final Fantasy judge. Hopefully the game doesn't suck.

A full mask instead of a half mask is totally a Judge look, especially with that style of horns, yeah. But if he's wearing a cape and holding a staff in his left hand...

Basically what I'm thinkin' is I'd be totally down with a mobile remake of PS1, it'd probably be easier to adapt to that format than the others, and Lassic's look is so stock 1980s he could totally use a makeover anyway. :pac So it'll suck when this game turns out to be something totally different and unrelated.
