If it's a crossover, mobile is a good bet. Although that series didn't exactly have boatloads of memorable characters to gatcha...

I feel like I heard something about a Wild Arms remake or series reboot? Wouldn't surprise me with all these Switch remasters that 1+2 would come to the Switch remade or something. I really liked the first 3 WA games. They switched up the formula after that in a way that ruined it for me, though.

Million Memories (this) was announced a while back. This will be the first actual details but it 500% has to be a gacha game based on what they've chosen to let slip so far.

I'll be delighted to be wrong though.

Looks like there's a new Rebel Galaxy on the way. There's still lorum ipsum placeholder text on its site, so maybe this slipped online slightly sooner than they wanted.

http://dev.cybertronindia.com/Rebel-galaxy/thegame.html

(Clicking through to the old Rebel Galaxy site now shows a teaser image implying an August 31st reveal date.)

The original game was an excellent foundation with not quite enough built atop of it, so hopefully the new one will keep the ball rolling with those basics and simply add more of everything.

So far it looks like that's what they're doing. Stations look explorable on-foot now? Or at least you'll see your character in a lot more spots than before. Minigames in station bars, a cockpit view on your ship, decal/paint customization, radio stations. Flight stick support if yer into that, which also apparently turns off the assists for a more hardcore experience.

It's impossible not to read that post in the voice of an eight year-old child who only got one scoop of ice cream instead of two.

Weirdly, there's now a PS4 version of Sunless Sea. While the core gameplay is probably no huge challenge to adapt to gamepad controls, it's such a text-heavy experience compared to most console games that I wonder how it feels in a couch/TV setting.

That link died as soon as someone noticed it went up early, but the news was confirmed earlier today as expected from the splash graphic. Rebel Galaxy Outlaw, early 2019, PC/PS4/Switch, $30. Prequel. More Z-axis movement than before.

https://www.polygon.com/2018/8/31/17805 ... ps4-switch

It's still a two-person team over at Double Damage, but they got a lot done last time with that manpower, even if the OG Rebel Galaxy was a tad content-light. I'm definitely interested to see how Outlaw builds on that. Will most of the fresh effort have gone into all these new features, or did they also find the time and resources to flesh-out the mission stuff?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sjlDDZOGWvo

I was already onboard but that fuckin' savage jab at Star Citizen probably just made Outlaw a day-one purchase. :pac

I hope the PC version retains the custom soundtrack functionality of the original. I filled mine with Bebop soundtracks and bits of the Firefly score and it all fit like a glove.

While farting around on Super Mario articles today, I learned that Nintendo has no position on a canon list of games for the franchise. While that's not really surprising given that the series now includes hundreds of games, many of which contradict each other, it's still interesting to consider the possibility of every single Mario game taking place in a different universe.

Miyamoto has said he basically sees the cast as a travelling troupe and every game as a play.

The original Valkyria Chronicles is also coming to Switch. $20, September 15.

https://www.polygon.com/2018/9/2/178119 ... endo-eshop

Oddly, it sounds like a port of the original version and not the PS4/PC remaster. Also, you can get it for $15 if you have Valkyria Chronicles 4 in your library... which launches on the 25th.

Also out this month, if anyone's been looking for something sorta Pokemon-ish, Heartbeat might be for you. Not to be confused with the godawful song or the godawful British comedy (?) using that song as its theme. September 14, $10, itch.io

Here's a weird one.

38 and Amalur and everything else connected to that debacle has been dead for years at this point, so... huh. Okay then.

e: also out of left-field: CCP (the EVE Online people) have been bought by the Black Desert Online people.

They're really pushing the Photo Mode in the Countdown to Launch for Spider-Man; which, I'll admit, does look really cool. Have any of you used Photo Modes much? I've barely touched them. I think I took three in Horizon: Zero Dawn, but that's about it. Ehh, I guess they were kind of built into the gameplay of FFXV, too.

this feature needs to be in all games from now on.

Various things that would've been on the delayed Nintendo Direct and I guess ended up getting announced separately: Final Fantasy XV Pocket Edition and Civilization 6.

https://kotaku.com/delayed-nintendo-dir ... 1828883135

I wonder how well Civ 6 will run on Switch. But chances are it's a port of the iOS port.

Has there been a Civ on Nintendo hardware since Civ 1 on the SNES? I loved that version.

My console Civ of choice was Civ 2 on PS1, I put 100s of hours into that easily and played like 14 hours at a time. It was a rough time for teenage'd me.

Here's an hour of Rebel Galaxy Outlaw. I'm really digging a lot of the changes they've made, and the candor of the narration.

https://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2018/0 ... -gameplay/

e: the ship painting system is bananas (around the 40 minute mark.) They pretty much built a Photoshop-like design app inside the game.

Yeah the commentary reminds me of Bob Ross somehow, even though his voice is totally different, perhaps it's a cadence thing.

Huh.

https://twitter.com/FinalFantasy/status ... 2145586176

I was just about ready to mark down Crystal Chronicles as a forgotten spin-off, and, uh, I actually did completely forget it existed until right this moment, so, huh.

Wasn't this one a Gamecube thing originally? Long road.

Yeah, it was a GameCube thing.

I was never a big fan, but it's had a pretty dedicated smallish (but still, like, bigger than Suikoden or whatever) fanbase. It actually has 5 spin-offs/sequels on the DS and/or Wii.

and I guess this is why The Last Remnant was getting pulled from marketplaces: a straight-up replacement is on the way.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7k3o-ydsF74

but if that extremely specific crop of JRPGs is making a comeback then hey put Lost Odyssey on literally anything other than Xbox hardware you cowards

Crystal Chronicles sucked.

Huh, I still need to finish Lost Odyssey. Game deserves way more attention.
