A bunch of old-ass PC RPGs are getting new-ass console ports, including Switch versions.

A bunch of Baldur's Gates, Neverwinter Nights, Planescape Torment, Icewind Dale... good gets, for wherever they land.

That's awesome! I was just asking about these a couple of months ago. There's a very good chance I'll play some of these.

Fffffffuck. Guess I gotta try it then. (Assuming I have the install space 🤔 ) Can't guarantee I'll stick around after 30 days but it'll be some good temporary fun.

Today's Nintendo Direct, I'll embed the Fire Emblem part in the other thread, yadda yadda.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SCME2yPJKWk

- MARIO MAKER SWITCH. RETURN OF THE RYCKERTALYPSE. P O L I C E S T A T E

- Ultimate Alliance 3, Marvel things, yep, seems to have all the Marvel things, up to and including Captain Marvel

- Dragon Quest Builders 2 and a Switch-exclusive definitive edition of DQ11 with a 16-bit mode, kinda cool I guess if you can stand to look at Dragon Quest stuff for more than couple seconds without falling asleep

- A new version of Rune Factory 4? And also Rune Factory... 5? Did anyone play these? They look a little Harvest Moon/Animal Crossing/Stardew with the anime slider dragged all the way to the right

- the I Am Setsuna people are doing another thing, hopefully better than their last couple things :sigh

- Daemon X Machina still looks neat.

- Platinum has a new IP called Astral Chain that looks kinda like a cellshaded cyberpunk character-action thing with some light mecha stuff. A more anime Metal Gear Rising, maybe.

- A total remake of Link's Awakening, the ancient Zelda thing on the OG Gameboy. It now has kind of a claymation look.

- MISC THINGS: Box people, Smash version updates (with no details, heh), Toads who are captains, Blood stains, Disney zoom-zoom (tsum tsum, whatever), Starlink with more pigs and foxes, craft artisanal bespoke Yoshis, a non-Effected Tetris, ...Dead By Daylight? Some incomplete free version of Deltarune as early as February 28, ...GRID Autosport? I wonder how the framerate feels... Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice, nice get... Mortal Kombat 11, Unraveled Two, Assassin's Creed 3/Liberation, Final Fantasy things, and a Bayonetta 3 namedrop but nothing else.

Oh, Darkest Dungeon 2 is on the way.

e: also, the Furi people have an RPG coming next year called Haven.

Both look interesting to me. The part that always kinda put me off Darkest Dungeon was how it basically taught you that none of your units really matter - it's kind of the opposite of how I play, I'm here to get attached.

Haven seems cool, I would have been into Furi if it wasn't a bullet hell boss fest (both things I'm not big on :pac )

Honestly, I got attached to any unit that made it past level 1. They all had their role and even losing a level 2 or 3 when I had numerous higher leveled pals around always sucked. It's why I lived for the exceptionally rare "revival" event.

Or maybe that's because I gave them all Suikoden narcissist-style names, making them each my dear life-long friends. uwu

Same. I like the idea of a game that's kinda nothing but a lengthy boss gauntlet, but not really in that genre in particular, or that combination of genres, Furi being like half bullet hell half character action, two things I'm pretty lousy at.

But that look and especially that music with entirely different gameplay could be really great.

Also, whoa, Wadjet is moving into the thiiiirrrrd diiiiiimension

https://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2019/0 ... announced/

yet another reminder to myself that I have the original Technobabylon in my library and probably even installed waiting to go but I've yet to pull the trigger on it 'cause I must be in the middle of at least three other Wadjet games at this point

Yeah, heard the new guy's last name is Bowser, which is cute. I have no attachment to Reggie, though. I'm sure he's responsible for great things, but I literally didn't know his name before today.

Shit; so Bowser couldn't take over the Mushroom Kingdom, so he had to settle for becoming it's corporate overlord.

Yeah, it looks great! I personally find the starters a bit underwhelming, but I'll wait and see what their evolutions look like. Since I plan on getting a Switch by the time 3 Houses comes out, getting this will be a no-brainer.

Firey bunny and crying chameleon are both very cute, but yeah we need to see their evolved forms. I don't want another Litten situation.

Weirdly, The Alliance Alive is getting an HD remaster for PS4, Switch, and PC, probably also with a western release.

https://gematsu.com/2019/03/the-allianc ... tch-and-pc

I didn't think the 3DS original was anywhere near successful enough for this but here we are.

That might have been me? I always suspected the franchise would move to mobile after toys-to-life died.
Alliance Alive
I like the art style, at least. Might give it a look if it's cheap enough.

Nice. I would totally play that on PS4. I should have picked it up on 3DS, but... I don't touch it very often.

I don't know why, but while I was able to play JRPGs on the GBA like Golden Sun and the Final Fantasy Advances, for some raisin I always ran into difficulty enjoying the genre on the DS and 3DS.

Unless The Alliance Alive gets a pretty substantial overhaul, this is almost baffling. The game barely has a plot. I guess they figure the Saga-gameplay focus will scratch a niche? Or the Switch was a good in-between port idea and they figured they'd may as well pick up some extra sales elsewhere?

The SaGa niche is so niche it's kinda hard to imagine it taking off anywhere these days, even in a modern looking game with a story by the Suikoden guy.

but these days with most platforms running on similar architecture I guess if the Switch was their target then PS4 and PC aren't so different they can't make relatively low-cost ports happen.

I'd maybe be wary of the PC port though given the recent NIS track record.
