As for not patching MEA, that would be for giggles, not playability. All my research(quick Google search) says that MEA is actually decent these days, fully patched. It's why I was finally willing to part with the $5 to buy it.
this is probably all the giggles you need from pre-patched Andromeda

A couple cool Genesis things happened this week. First, the MegaSG is out and getting rave reviews. Should you want the new gold standard for modernized Genesis hardware that takes whatever old cartridges you might still have laying around, this is it.

https://www.polygon.com/2019/3/25/18278 ... mega-drive

I still have at least two or three old Genesis units down in the shop in who knows what condition, so I'm more interested in those fuckin' fantastic looking controllers, especially 'cause they apparently work in Windows and can be bought on their own.

Second, Sega finally took the lid off their Genesis Mini. Yes, various attempts at tiny Genesii have made it to market before, but they've all been licensed to third parties, and they've all had emulation problems. This one is finally coming from Sega in-house, specifically M2, the group behind Sega Ages, who've recently been putting out incredible definitive editions of old Sega games on the Switch. That alone feels like a huge deal; I'm not necessarily expecting Switch Phantasy Star levels of curation, tweaks, and bonus content from all 40 games in this package, but that's still 100% the team you want working on any old Sega things in 2019.

Only 10 of those 40 games have been revealed so far, so don't bother whining about omissions, but that early list includes Castlevania Bloodlines (!) so they appear to be digging a little deeper into the library this time around versus previous collections.

http://genesismini.sega.com/

It'll be out on September 19th.

e: according to Kotaku, it'll also have all regional variants of some games, and not just the version local to the region yer Mini was purchased in, so for instance the Japanese Genesis Mini will have the Japanese, European, and NA versions of Castlevania Bloodlines. That's pretty neat and makes me wonder if the other 39 games will follow suit. Also makes me wonder if this is the first Mini console to do this.

also, the Genesis Mini's menu music will be composed by Yuzo F'n Koshiro.

I know nothing about Sakura Wars other than it's been around forever but there's a new one and it's headed west, which almost never happens

The Wii/PS2 one set in the US was pretty fun.

Pretty much all I know about Sakura Wars is that a friend of mine in University was well into it and drew a bunch of fanart.

It's basically Taisho-era Japan (and the US that one time), so the 1910s-20s, with mechs.

Usually about a mech squad with some sort of secret identity as a theater group or similar and plays mostly as a tactical RPG with visual novel/dating sim stuff out of battle.

If only! We're talking super agile mobile suits and not the way more awesome clunky and cumbersome 1960s AFWs of Ring of Red.

Sounds like someone should grab Battletech the next time it goes on sale. Clunky and cumbersome big stompy mechs all over. And in space!

Can't wait for the Switch Simulator on the Switch!

Sort of on topic, Mike's parents gifted me $200 for my birthday, despite us not even getting along last weekend... okay! My Switch is a lot closer now. Part of me wants to order it soon since I took Wednesday and the rest of this week, so that it'll arrive when I'm home. But I'm in the middle of other games so it'll either sidetrack me, or I won't touch it yet...

Yer on Amazon Prime, right? If so, that'll get you a year of Nintendo Online, too. So whatever Switch freebies are in there currently - some NES stuff and maybe Tetris 99.

https://lifehacker.com/amazon-prime-mem ... 1833692949

back to Borderlands for a moment, Borderlands 3 may or may not have a September 13th release date, but that comes from a deleted tweet, so it's probably not 100% reliable.

e: that date's now confirmed plus it'll be on Epic.

Oh shit, yes, thanks for that! I definitely want Tetris 99 too... UGH so when I'm sober tomorrow I think I might finally pull this trigger.

Along with Persona it looks like Best Buy also leaked the existence of Metroid Prime Trilogy and Link to the Past. I assume the latter could just be a Nintendo Online rerelease a la the NES stuff.

So far it's been NES-only, so as cool as LttP would be in itself, such an announcement would also mean they're ready to start releasing SNES games.

So, I finally beat FF XIII. While I will say I enjoyed it overall, it definitely has a lot of problems, and it damn sure dragged towards the end. It got to the point I just wanted it to be over. Now, I do have XIII-2, due to a Gold sale years back, but I am certainly NOT ready to pick it up now. I guess I could play MEA now, but oof, maybe tomorrow.

XIII-2 is better, but far more focused on battles and vignettes. And, that ending is a kick in the balls...

Did anyone play Assassin's Creed Origins? It's the Humble Monthly headliner for this month and I'm curious. I know Odyssey has been getting a ton of praise, but I don't remember exactly what the consensus was on Origins.

Origins got similar praise IIRC. I've played some of it on PS4, it's good but in a way I couldn't really get into. Gorgeous though.

I do enjoy losing myself in ridiculously pretty open worlds. I should probably finish my NG+ run through Horizon first though. And I have a feeling I'd probably enjoy running around as Kassandra more than Bayek, even if I'm probably more into old-ass Egypt than old-ass Greece.
