I will say Bayek's a good character, though I don't know any DLC that ends up putting him in a pantsuit, so obviously Kassandra is the superior choice.

Looks like Octopath Traveler could be getting a PC port, according to a Korean ratings board.

Oh, nice! A game like that would run just fine on my new PC, so if it comes out before I get a Switch, I might go that route.

Star Wars + ...Titanfall? Is this that thing they're supposedly making from all the assets leftover from the cancelled Visceral project? 🤔

Ya know, I don't think I care about Star Wars anymore, certainly not with EA attached.

Octopath PC now confirmed for June 7th on Steam, no price announced yet. Probably the same as the Switch version or less.

That's right after PQ2, so by the time I'm actually ready to play it, it'll hopefully have a Steam sale or something.

Early PS5 deets.

https://www.wired.com/story/exclusive-s ... n-console/
https://www.polygon.com/2019/4/16/18399 ... compatible

AMD Ryzen/Navi base, supports raytracing and resolutions up to 8k
Some sorta new 3D audio tech
An SSD, finally
:siren PS4 BACKWARD COMPATIBILITY :siren
PSVR support if yer into that
No date or price yet, won't launch this year

I'll put my chips on $400 - $500 USD with a Fall 2020 launch assuming they do E3 next year despite skipping this year.

PS4 BC is absolutely incredible. Usually I wait several years to get a new console after it releases, but I might pick this up same-year for just that raisin.

Yup, maybe same here, especially since I've stuck with a vanilla PS4 slim and haven't sprung for one of the fancier half-step upgrades. So assuming PS4 BC ain't a feature that gets axed last minute (raytracing or 8k futureproofing feels more like possible cuts, especially if they wanna sell a PS5 Pro someday) then I may as well just wait for the new hotness.

I'm happy in general about the BC, but I have so many digital games on my PS3 and PS4 that I still wouldn't want to sell my current consoles. Or, could I transfer that data somehow? Or redownload those games for free since my PSN account knows I already paid for them? Not really sure how that works in this regard since I got my PS3 and PS4 fairly close together and still use both.

All your purchases should be on your PSN account so you could just redownload everything. I can't imagine they'd rework PSN so much for the PS5 that it'd require new accounts for everyone.

Also seems like the PS5 will still support physical media and won't be going digital-only, so I assume for PS4 BC you should be able to just stick 'em in the PS5 drive and they'll work like normal.

Cool beans. I still have physical PS3 games that I haven't gotten around to, though, so we'll have to see if it goes more than 1 generation back. (Unlikely, though they're still Blu-rays, so maybe?)

PS3 compatibility is a longshot due to how much time has already passed and how oddly that thing's system architecture was built (it's complicated.) The latter is probably why most PS3 games that turned up on PS4 were remasters and not simple ports. So I feel like it'll always be a good idea to keep an actual PS3 around if there's still stuff you wanna play on it.

I wonder if Sony has any long-plan for PS3 games. Some PS1 and PS2 games have migrated to the PS4 (not nearly enough), so PS3 will be the only console whose games are stuck in their own generation. A bunch of classics have been remastered, so that's good, but I wonder if anything will come of the bulk of that library.

Hm. Here's a knotty story I don't know how I feel about:

Report: Sony Has New, Stricter Guidelines For Sexual Content In PS4 Games

I think the thing I care about most is stuff getting censored on its way from Japan to the rest of the world, which the article is a bit unclear on how much is happening. Across-the-board changes in standards are more acceptable to me than content changes solely for Western audiences.

I don't personally play "adults only" titles so I honestly don't care too much about what happens to those. Though it's weird that Sony and Nintendo's roles may end up swapping a bit, with Nintendo potentially more open to M-rated content.

"A Sony spokeswoman confirmed the company has established its own guidelines ‘so that creators can offer well-balanced content on the platform’ and gaming ‘does not inhibit the sound growth and development’ of young people,”

Won't someone think of the children!

Please! Don't let your youngins play M rated games. Problem solved.

Next ten Genesis Mini games announced

https://kotaku.com/sega-just-revealed-t ... 1834134113

Earthworm Jim
Sonic the Hedgehog 2
Castle of Illusion Starring Mickey Mouse
World of Illusion Starring Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck
Contra: Hard Corps
Streets of Rage 2
Thunder Force III
Super Fantasy Zone
Shinobi III: Return of the Ninja Master
Landstalker

...a lot of these are seriously unexpected additions probably making their first appearances in a Genesis collection of any kind. I don't think Earthworm Jim made it into any previous compilation due to license issues with Shiny or something, those two Mickey games feel like big deals for some folks for sure, Contra Hard Corps (whaddup Vinny & Dan) follows Castlevania from the previous 10 reveals, and even Super Fantasy Zone and Landstalker are pretty out there despite being Sega first-party IP or very close to it.

Here's a big long devstream for Rebel Galaxy Outlaw

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h0wc8CSL-mg

If you played the original Rebel Galaxy you pretty much know what yer getting into, Outlaw swaps capital ships for fighters and kinda looks to be doubling or tripling the overall content.

there's like a thousand music tracks this time including a very Bebop-ish big band jazz station, hell yeah

Switch things: that cheaper model might be out in June, but otherwise there's no new details or confirmations, aside from maybe it not being an undockable handheld-only version as was rumoured. The other, upgraded version, is gonna take longer. 2020? Maybe we'll get more news at E3. (If they aren't taking out the dock to lower the price, I wonder what other component is taking the hit? A downgraded screen?)

The Switch has also surpassed the N64's lifetime hardware sales. That should also put it ahead of the Gamecube and Wii U and closing in on the NES/SNES/Wii. No idea about comparisons to the pure handhelds.

The UK is getting a Mario Maker 2 bundle with 12 months of Nintendo Online on June 28th. If that appears outside the UK I might spring for it and get a Switch a little earlier than I planned.
