0:22 Holy shit! Those fanboys have nothing to complain about. From the side Tifa looks... well, kinda ridiculous, actually.

Shiva looks very Elven in this. And, is that charioteer supposed to be Odin? I forget which summons are in the original. The horse looks like Ixion, but that's definitely not originally in VII. (quick Google later) Umm... I don't remember ever seeing Kujata, Typhon, Alexander, Hades, or Phoenix.

I'm really tempted to pre-order on this one. It's looking really good, and I was never a huge fan of VII.

I appreciate how they managed to make Reno, Rude and Tseng all kinda hot but in different ways.

Also, looking at Don Corneo, I'm realizing the best part of this remake might be all the random minor characters who never got official artwork, and now we'll get to see what they actually look like.

Aww yeah, Honeybee footage...

Still worried I might not dig the new battle system, but everything else looks great.

I didn't play the last couple of Metal Gear titles. Lately I've been thumbing through wikis and reading spoilers and holeee crap does some insane stuff go down. They also do the kind of lame Star Wars thing where almost every major character winds up being related somehow.

Yeah, Big Boss AND Solid Snake AND Liquid Snake AND Solidus Snake all related? Give me a break.

Okay, I'm stealing this one from the Suikoden Club on Facebook, because I want to know what you guys would say:

If you had to recommend someone play 5 games to get a feel for your tastes, what would you recommend?

I was a little wishy washy with the last one, but I'd probably go with:

Suikoden 3
The Last of Us
Rogue Galaxy
Shining Force 2
Thor of War PS4

Although, Uncharted 2 and Final Fantasy X would be other good ones.

I posted some top 10 favorite games thing on Twitter last night... but 5 games that would give people a feel for my tastes... slightly different question, but mostly the same answers.

Earthbound
Super Mario RPG
Persona 3
Fire Emblem Path of Radiance/Radiant Dawn (2 games but it's one story)
... Shadow Hearts?

Ooh, that's a fun question. I'll try to make some diverse choices.

Final Fantasy Tactics
Suikoden II
Metal Gear Solid: Twin Snakes
We Love Katamari
Culdcept

That still leaves out some whole genres I like such as platforming (Sly Cooper) and fighting games (Tekken 5). It also misses all-time favs like Chrono Trigger and Final Fantasy IV, but those are too close in gameplay to Suikoden II. In each of those five I love the story/characters, the gameplay and the general vibe the game gives.

Ooh, platformers. I'd have to go with Alice: Madness Returns, I think.

seems you might be in luck, they just dropped information about a Classic Mode for combat at their TGS presentation

https://twitter.com/finalfantasyvii/sta ... 41728?s=20

it's a much longer thread than what I can embed elegantly, but basically it sounds like Classic Mode will automate the basic attacks (and maybe blocks) that build ATB gauge in FF7R's battle system, pretty much allowing you to focus entirely on menu selections like the original.

Oh, that presentation also showed another boss fight, this time vs. Aps in the sewer after you fail to smash/crush/cut off Don Corneo's junk

https://youtu.be/1tjwcrIv3Co

bunch of notable stuff in here, from the whole remixed main battle theme, Cloud's got a Hardedge equipped, some limit break-y stuff from Tifa and Aeris, and it shows how summons will work - supposedly, they're limited to one per character now (smart; this was always the optimal way to equip summons before anyway 'cause of their big stat debuffs) and they linger on the battlefield for a while kinda like in other FF games, then cast their best spell when they leave

e: more here, from the reactor raid at the start of the game

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qxryETMIesI

sounds like there's now a combat remix of the reactor dungeon theme, which is a cool touch. wonder if they'll do that for later dungeons. barrett's utility re: being able to hit distant targets Cloud probably can't easily reach is shown off again. and I think this is the first appearance of the main camp menu. "enemy report" is probably a bestiary. "DLC" text is shown, which should fire up the imaginations.

Hmm five games to understand me?

The Sims 4
Butterfly Soup
Symphony of the Night
Skyrim
Shadowrun: Hong Kong

I feel like that's a decent selection of fun whimsy mixed with character creators and RP opportunities. When I got Sims 4: Realm of Magic on the weekend I spent my first evening (a few hours) purely in the character creator to flesh out my focus sim and some of the world around them. Last night I may or may not have been back in creation mode, expanding the narrative.

I'm still kinda in awe that it even exists... and that it looks so much better running in real time than Advent Children did as a fully prerendered movie.

It's #1 with a bullet on my 2020 anticipation org chart. That's the spot I never thought Cyberpunk 2077 would lose to anything, but here we are.

here's the full TGS presentation, dunno if there's anything in it which wasn't already in those two videos I already posted, but it might be a little higher res maybe since it's straight from Sony.

https://youtu.be/0x1AGz8DwtY?t=521

I really really want a translation for this.

To be fair, how long ago was Advent Children? We've made some graphical improvements since then.

Edit: Almost a decade and a half! That's some time right there. 9/14/2005.

I remember seeing Advent Children in theaters when it was new. I was still in high school. Fuck.

But yeah, that classic mode thing is great news for old fans who don't gravitate from turn-based games much. I love it when games have inclusive options like that for people. And people who may have hated the original *because* it was turn-based now have a raisin to give it another shot. Can't go wrong with having multiple difficulty options like that. I hate gatekeeping...

E: Wait, I think I'm thinking of Spirits Within. Advent Children was a game, right? Thor, my memory sucks. Spirits Within was 7/2/2001 so fuck, I was actually in middle school when I saw that with my best friend. We hated it.

Advent Children was another movie, but produced in the Spirits Within style, basically. Or as close to it as possible without overspending like they did on Spirits Within and nearly killing the whole company again. I don't think Advent Children got a theatrical release outside Japan unless it was very limited.

Spirits Within is at least worth it for the reference in Life is Strange (and Giant Bomb's reaction to it)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IFe5BfmzTtA

hot take: Spirits Within is bad, but probably better than Advent Children

Oh snap, Eurogamer has some of that TGS demo in English. (though if it's just the reactor demo, that's pretty much what we already saw in English at E3, so this one would just be adding the dialogue before the scorpion fight I guess)

Well, GOG Galaxy is now a thing (as in, the beta has started). I've installed it. And realized, I don't have much games on GOG. That might change, now that they have a launcher. Any of you get in yet? I'm TruePerception, of course.

Ooh, I'm digging this platform integration in GOG. That should help me not rebuy games. I'm always checking to see if I have things on other platforms, but just haven't touched them. I have bought duplicates unintentionally a couple times.

Edit: It doesn't, however, show anything on the store page that it is already owned on a different platform. Oh, well. Clicking on the Games page and doing a quick scan is fast enough. I have every platform linked (sans XBox, obviously), and it even shows games that are not on GOG. For instance, I can see Uncharted 4 on the list, and view my trophies list. Very neat.
