I'm WineLover (because my name and WineTime were taken... but somehow that wasn't).
Added you. Heh, WineLover has a very Blutie design. :pac (Same clothes I picked for my test character, too. High five.) I'm guessing the game wants you to be a certain level or past a certain story point before you can receive guild invites, but if WineLover is Lv. 7 then she's basically almost there.

Getting to Lv. 10 will open up some of the goofier minigames, such as this dance thing.

Image

100 players parachute onto an island In Dance Dance Stop, about 50 characters get tossed onto this big dancefloor split into grids. Just dance when prompted...

Image

Image

...and match enough dancers to the number on the glowing tiles when prompted - or else!

Image

If other MMOs had these goofball dances and facial expressions and this kinda hilarious minigame maybe I'd still be playing 'em, just saying

Elsewhere...

Firewood, he means firewood.

Yeah, she was meant to be me. I found it kind of odd that glasses weren't an option for customization, but I'm guessing I can get accessories down the line? I'm still in that first tutorial town. When I left off last night, I couldn't figure out where to find some of the people in the exploration suggestions or whatever it was called on the side.

I'll go back on after dinner.

And wow, that had to be intentional.

I don't think most exploration objectives are marked on the map (aside from binoculars?) 'cause they probably want you to find 'em on yer own, but NPCs might be noted by a blue checkmark sometimes. Other quests (or at least the main quest) have a compass thing you can turn on that I'm pretty sure is off by default.

Every map seems to have its own list of exploration objectives though, so you'll never run out, and a lot of 'em are things you'll find naturally, or can't do just yet 'til an unlock happens, like fishing.

Oh yeah, and font sizes, at least for the chat window: right-click on the tab, tab settings, font size should have a slider in there along with window transparency. For the quest box fonts, uh, I think you have to increase the whole UI size for that, unfortunately. Those sliders are in the main options somewhere, probably under Interface.

Okay, don't know what I did or how I did it, but I somehow teleported into several other cities. I tried to take a helicopter back to that starting city, and it wants 3000 gold that I don't have. Any tips on how to... accidentally get back for free?

Heh, assuming you unlocked it, take a taxi instead of a helicopter. ...unless that also wants 3k gold. But a taxi will be way cheaper, at least.

The main story quest will also warp you around a little bit sometimes just to get you to objectives quicker so maybe you got tripped up by one of those, in which case following along will eventually get you back to (I assume) Tria.

I think some character classes also start in different places for tutorial quests and then "graduate" to Tria as the official main hub so that might also be what happened.

I can't find the taxis anywhere (unless I got to where I did by taking one without even realizing it?) and I haven't even done the first main quest yet. I still have to escort someone somewhere in the first adventure area. I was looking around town trying to fill those exploration goals/find those damn binoculars and I don't know what happened. It's that Lith Port that I need to go back. I don't think I even made it to Tria.

I don't know how I fucked up this bad.

The taxis have their own animation and the player character will even yell TAXI! so you'd know if you got in one accidentally. They actually look more like bus stops for some raisin.

Image

You're probably in the main quest chain already 'cause it's always active after you roll a character. I think. Always labeled as [Epic]. (I'm guessing yer on "A Simple Job" at this point?) So you might be able to get back on track just by clicking the compass button from OFF to ON in the quest window under your minimap and then following the yellow pointer thing.

also I checked out yer house and it's not an empty void like mine so that's cool (insert "guys live like this" meme)

Yep, that's the quest. I'll try to get on track... (I know I have the compass on but since I'm nowhere near it, I haven't seen the arrows since that first town that I'd like to go back to).

And yeah, my house was an accident too. I clicked on the "go home" option and it let me create a home with a template, so I picked one. There was no door, though... I don't remember how I got out (I think I clicked on some other menu option). That might be part of why I'm in a weird place.

rescued Blutie from her player housing prison (h/t our guild castle and its fixed door to the main hub city) (all MMOs should be forced to have a "warp to player" party function by law)

Image

ALGOL OGS! BRING THE FOI!

then we wandered a bit on quest stuff! It was good and sorta confusing times. This game's mapping/navigation can be a little, uh, odd, at least at first.

note to self: roll a priest 'cause (at least so far) knights have no heals, only buffs 🤔

note to others: game's free, cute as shit, on steam, North America West, Algol OGs, bring the foi, roll deep, bust some HEADS, catch some FISH, #squad

So I've been playing more Darkest Dungeon and while it can be cruel and things can go bad at a moment's notice, I respect that it feels mostly fair. Better equipment, skills, party compositions tailored to the task at hand do go a long way. It isn't just an overly harsh RNG waiting to devour you.

My group was batted back pretty hard and we were bleeding members and money but I was able to rebuild the core of the survivors and get some good runs together and rebuild what we had going on. That felt pretty good. Like there's almost no completely unsalvageable position.

I've been meaning to jump into Darkest Dungeon someday. I always kinda figured it was some kinda attrition-y nightmare, but it doesn't sound nearly that bad from how you describe it.

say, when yer finished yer shift at the darkest dungeon mine, have ya considered chilling with a refreshing glass of MapleStory 2? :getin

Anytime! I enjoy the mountain guide experience. Heh, I actually rolled a priest alt after that session for better healing support, just in case.

Oh, and while I built up my house (I spotted a full bar in the customization options, so) I also noticed that you can totally build portals, they're free, and you can connect them to anywhere in the world you've already visited

Image

you can even connect them to friend's houses, or other portals in your house. if there's really no limit I suppose you could fill yer house with nothing but free portals connecting to different maps and never bother with taxis again. but for the purposes of not getting trapped somehow, plopping one down and just setting it to Tria or that harbour or wherever is fine.

speaking of houses and what people can do with them (or to them) here comes an episode of

do I wanna know what that first house means by "anime experience"? dare I enter? :ohdear

It's not all like this though. I stumbled upon someone's music house with a couple doge :shibe and someone else I guess using it to advertise a Twitch channel.

Image

anyway, I'm totally taking suggestions for a guild poster to replace the default below at the castle.

Image

since apparently any JPEG I fart out of Photoshop and upload to the game is just fine, no oversight I guess :pac

You've made like six posts about this game and I still don't know what it is. Some kind of fucking-around simulator? Which isn't a bad thing. Everything I do is just a distraction from the void already.

Darkest Dungeon seems like one of those games where a run can go horribly wrong and set you back a bunch, but either way you're always progressing. Kind of like Rogue Legacy.

I am really in love with the narrator though, I commentated one of my hearthstone matches against a mate in the DD voice and it made me want to try and DM a one shot that way.

Yup! On the surface it's an MMO with a goofy mostly-solo story attached, but in reality it's a fucking-around simulator, or at least that's been most of my experience with it so far, so to me it feels more like a weirder Animal Crossing or something.

In addition to fishing and music performance and all those kinda hilarious minigames there's also player housing with a full interior designer plus a ton of crafting covering the expected range of cooking, blacksmithing, etc. Every map seems to have non-combat exploration stuff.

And the UGC engine doesn't just let people upload graphics onto walls and posters but apparently also equipment which you can then sell or just wear yourself. Make a Virion suit if you wanna. Or, as Ben & Jan discovered...

https://youtu.be/lNQ7PnBrsdQ?t=3374

Anyway, it's a good chill hang.

Tales of Vesperia is coming out Friday (and I won't even have time to play it then) so I doubt I'll be active on MS2 for a while after tomorrow.

yo Hunter, there's a couple different Phantasy Star 2 modernization things in the Steam workshop, have you tried either of 'em?

https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/ ... =674686794
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/ ... =675477796

(at least one of these romhacks originated on PSCave or something so maybe you played it outside Steam, too)

I've had just about enough of the mobile port. I guess I could just dig my 360 outta mothballs and play Phantasy Star 2 on the older Genesis Collection, or the Steam version with the OG game balance and no hacks, but I do like the sound of increased walking speed. (Could totally do without "added more references to the other games!" though 'cause there's already tons of those? editorializin' modders are always wildly hit-miss.)

Heh, fired up my ancient brick of a 360 last night (christ this thing is heavy) and quickly discovered the batteries in my controller were both dead and corroded, so that's fun.

Shame on me for never picking up a wired 360 pad I guess, or always forgetting to pull batteries outta mothballed electronics, though at the same time they could've just done the PS3/PS4 thing and designed the pad around an internal battery.

But I also kinda hate the limited emulation options for Phantasy Star 2 in the old Genesis Collection. Smoothing bad, 16:9 bad, ugly frame around 4:3 is bad, bleh. Should just pop a dollar for it on Steam or find a ROM and use RetroArch.
