There's a Battletech free weekend on Steam so that might just derail a lot of my plans for the next few days.

Trip report: Battletech is extremely good. But this is a known known, I'm pretty late to the party on this banger. If yer into big stompy mechs, tactics games, deep management layers, and space feudalism lore, by all means spend yer weekend on it. I might.

...that said, the Star Trek New Horizons mod for Stellaris 2.2 finally updated, so that's also gonna take a lot of my free time.

Thinkin' I'll do a quick pass through some of the mobile games I haven't touched in a while now that I have a more capable phone. Yer Pocket Camps, yer DX2s, etc.

Pocket Camp looks like it added fishing? There's... Bayonetta crossover content in DX2? Huh.

yo Hunter what's that FF game yer into, is it worth checking out, holla at me

He plays Brave Exivus. I played FF Record Keeper for a time, which was neat because of all the classic sprite work given to all the games referenced.

I'm still on Brave Exvius too. It's a lot of fun, although it's best when they're doing a themed event based on the franchise and not their own ideas (the spread is maybe 50/50).

There's also Opera Omnia. It's based off Dissidia, but that means FF characters only, even if some of them are really obscure. They're on the tail end of their 1st anniversary event, so checking it out should get you some nice freebies.

You might also want to check out Epic Seven. It's a Korean game, all original story and characters as far as I can tell, and top notch waifus. Just as an example:

I'm playing Epic Seven, basically to the exclusion of all other mobile games ass to mouth. Iseria is queen.

Do they only have waifus? Or do they share the love with husbandos?

There are male characters, but I don't pay attention to them.

There are some hot boys for sure, Krau is top of the list. They're far fewer than the ladies though, so can be tough to build yourself a team of handsome men.

Telltale's Skybound's The Walking Dead Final Season final episode finally came out.

me: Everyone in this game is stupid. This whole series jumped the shark in mid season two and never recovered. I cannot care about any of this.

I got Trails of Cold Steel in the mail today. I know absolutely nothing about it, but bought the new PS4 remake since many of my online friends with similar tastes as me all said it was excellent. I was looking at the Vita versions of the series (which are priced similarly to the PS4 remakes) when I noticed the remakes were happening only months down the road, so I'm glad I held off (seems to be a theme today).

Yo Falcon lemme know what you think of Heaven's Vault 'cause the concept sounds amazing but some of the reviews are a tad mixed.

I'm having a really good time with it, it has got me invested in the world and looking around and decyphering the language. The between world travel is real rough, but when you get to walk around and explore a space, it's really cool.

I'm on the end game of Trails of Cold Steel. Definitely exceeded expectations, so I have the next one pre-ordered, but I have to wait until the end of May. On PC, I decided to restart FE6 (translation patch) since my old save file didn't seem to transfer over right. That's fine, since I wasn't far at all, and the battle that gave me trouble last time only took one try this time (it probably helps that I played FE9/10 in the meantime and that I'm more attune to strategy). There's some cool characters already that I'd like to see in Heroes in the future. And yeah, Rutger is way better in this game than in Heroes, sadly.

Back on Heaven's Vault, now that I've played some more my favourite parts are the banter between Aliya and Six, there seems to be a ton of dialogue between them and it nicely fills up any kind of quiet time with a little interest. As part of that, the dialogue system where you have question or respond to whatever six says, and how often it will come up with 'question', and then a couple of moments later also have 'respond' is genius, like you can make a snap response or a slightly more considered response. Also having all four face buttons essentially there for speech options, you can safely move around and have conversations without missing anything.

Between the fun banter, the investigations, and how your robot companion constantly calls you 'Mistress' I actually kind of feel like I'm playing a Doctor Who game. The travel between worlds on weird streams initially felt unweildly, but now that I'm used to it I quite enjoy sailing down the streams.. and I could totally see a similar mechanic with the time tunnels the tardis goes down.

At this stage it's looking high on my GOTY list.

This video gives an idea of how the movement and dialogue work, you don't need to watch deep to get the gist of it.

In retro news, Notabohr is almost finished going through Castlevania: Symphony of the Night for the first time. Thor, I'd forgotten how much of a complete package that game is.

C6 got me playing Final Fantasy XIV. It seems pretty good so far. Mostly I'm just killing squirrels? It's chill.

FF14 is great until it demands you play with other humans all the time, which is awful.
