They're interquels, between SF1&2, and yeah, they are both SF1/2 style TRPGs.

Layfield bestowed upon me a birthday copy of Sumatra: Fate of Yandi so I'll jump into that soon. It's been ages since I played a point & click and even longer since I finished one. Got a good feeling I might actually see credits on Sumatra though.

Nice.

Notabohr just finished Nier: Automata, and I basically got to enjoy the story by watching him. I don't think it would have been exactly my jam, but he thought it was really awesome. If nothing else the game manages to pose some really interesting philosophical questions in a non-obtuse way.

I've heard about that! Someone on Twitter was doing a PoR run where everyone was Soren and it was hilarious.

I picked up Draugen which seems a pretty Gone Home-like with a plucky sidekick. Prob wait till the weekend to get into it though.

So, Shining Force CD is...interesting. It opens with some really nice digital art and a voiced narration summarizing the first game. Then you get hit with the music. If you ever wondered what Shining Force music would sound like orchestrated, it's pretty nice. The graphics are nice and colorful, and some of the combat backgrounds are downright gorgeous.

Then you get to the character and enemy sprites... At least half of them are recycled from SF1, and the enemies in particular look blobby and undetailed, like they literally took the sprites from the original game gear version, and just scaled them up with no other work. The actual new sprites look good, but all the sprites have very minimal animation. Like, literally three frames. The UI is also pretty bad and confusing and the whole thing feels far less polished than Shining Force II.

Overall I'm enjoying it, but it definitely needed more polish before release.

Played through Draugen, it's not long but was pretty and interesting. It was kind of fun that they gated off areas and kind of controlled the order you explored via the protagonist's manners meaning he doesn't want to interfere until he has a raisin to.

Just started Days Gone, which I bought as part of PSN's E3 sale (along with Spiderman and Detroit). It feels a little slow, so far, but is fairly engrossing. More thriller than Last of Us was. I can already tell the bike is going to take some getting used to. It's set up with super tight steering. Not the worst, but if you're not careful, the bike is going way off course. Luckily, it's not hard on crashing/collision.

I intended to play 45 minutes, but ended up at about twice that.

Okay. Biggest peeve so far, the pre-gameplay loading screens are ridiculously long. There one before the main menu, and one when loading the game. It seems they're trying to avoid loading screens during gameplay, by loading everything in place beforehand. It's annoying to sit there for several minutes of nothing, though.

Also, apparently saves are at the start of a mission, even if you save in the middle. So, I wasted a half an hour last time I played. Lovely. I don't know why any game maker would do that these days. Oh, well. I have the lay of the land for the sections so it should go quicker.

Something weird in the game, there are hanging bodies in places. Some sort of in-game scare tactic, I guess. You can shoot them down, but you never get anything for doing so. Still, gonna keep doing it though. You never know...

It's a common shorthand for 'how far humanity has fallen' to have bodies hanging around the place. Since I'm playing Fallout 4 again at the moment there are displayed corpses everywhere, I'm sure glad my nose isn't in the wasteland. Interesting that you can shoot them down though, maybe there is something there.

You can't shoot them all down, for some raisin, though most you can. And, it seems like you can collect freaker ears off the ones that were freakers, although it's hard to tell which are which from the ground.

I just looked at the trophies list, and I didn't see anything pertaining to them, but it could be hidden, I suppose. Though, in that case, I would think my Google search on them would have turned up that, and not just the glitch that involves them (pulling up the weapon wheel makes them ragdoll a bit).

Probably just means they decided to use ragdoll physics on some of them for #realism, and then didn't want to deal with the additional physics of basically piñatas if they didn't fall down.

Judgment's out, at least it is for folks who preordered and got the early access perk. Guess I could drop thoughts about it over in the Yakuza thread 'cause it's in-universe with those games and shares a location even if it's (probably?) not too connected plotwise but ehh. This works for now.

It's gonna be fun. I haven't even finished Yakuza Kiwami 2 yet, but here I am jumping into this. Maybe not the smartest choice re: adding to my backlog issues but whatever. The zeitgeist beckons.

I'll be interested to see if Judgment grabs anyone who isn't already familiar with Yakuza. It could be a good new onboarding point for neophytes.

BLOODSTAINED is what I'm playing. Took me a bit to get into the rhythm but now that I'm there it's everything I ever wanted. 11/10 GOTY.

Really? I'll have to pass that along to Mike. He's been following the whole ordeal and is interested due to loving Castlevania. He's more than welcome to play my PS4, but he hasn't yet. I've been encouraging him to get it.

those of you with Switches: how long y'all figure the rather scant internal storage will last me before I have to go spring for an SD card? that's something I might wanna do before my Switch gets here on Monday. Mario Maker 2 is only like a 2.8GB install, which is nice, but I imagine Three Houses will be far larger and up against whatever else I pick up to fill the time until then.

also I remembered again that Humble sells digital Switch/3DS stuff, so if that's how I end up buying Switch games I might run out of space pretty fast.

Fire Emblem Three Houses will apparently need 11.9GB as a digital download, so plan accordingly, I guess? I buy my Switch games physical because Nintendo doesn't do their weird 10% back offer for digital titles like they did on the Wii U.

Gettin' physical is a good idea for console games and I might just do that for most of my Switch stuff, yeah. I buy so few console games at this point, like, 2 or 3 a year, especially compared to Steam, that I may as well go for collector's editions that look good on my shelf.

...I actually kinda regret buying Judgment digitally. If they put out a special edition for it that looks even close to as cool as the Yakuza 6 stuff it'd look pretty amazing on display.

But yeah, I've also swung back to physical after my Wii U digital days. Cases are just nice sometimes. It's not that much of a hassle to switch a disc or cart, really. And even if these days it only means actual access to version 1.0.0, at least that's something I can keep hold of come what may on digital store fronts, licensing, or with publishers and developers.

(None of this applies to PC lol)
