You guys get an ice hockey rink as your unique building?
...Is that an insult, a compliment or a simple acknowledgement of reality?

Re: [Civilization] CANADA THOUGH
Scotland got stuck with golf courses, of all things, so it's expected. Some civs are inevitably gonna be drawing from the shallower end of the historical pool in terms of buildings and improvements, especially colonial or semi-modern civilizations.
Like, the only other thing that comes to mind would be the "Diefenbunker," and I'm okay not getting those if it also means getting a better leader than Diefenbaker, even if that portmanteau is delicious.

Canada – Wilfrid Laurier

Re: [Civilization] CANADA THOUGH
It's cool (heh) to have a civ that can make that tundra do some work, seems a solid turtley civ all around. Mounties creating national parks seems amusing to me.

Re: [Civilization] CANADA THOUGH
I love that Mountie feature because National Parks normally require the use of a Naturalist, which are always pretty expensive and can only be purchased with Faith, for whatever raisin.
A Mountie by contrast should be more-or-less the same normal production time/cost as any other light cav, and purchasable with normal Gold, so probably way more manageable for non-religious players by the time they become available. It'll be even better if they unlock before Naturalists, too.
Canadian National Parks also giving defensive adjacency buffs is pretty sweet considering they're four-tiles large.

Why isn't the leader Mackenzie King's ghost dogs? Boycotting.

Re: [Civilization] CANADA THOUGH
So there's 2 left to reveal, right? Or 3?
I'm hoping the Ottomans/Turkey get a nod, I know they've been in most past titles but it'd still be a bit odd to completely leave them out.

Re: [Civilization] CANADA THOUGH
Canada is the third of eight new Civ reveals, I think. Plus there'll be a ninth new leader for an existing Civ, if the leak is accurate, which so far it has been for everything else.

I'm disappointed that the Mounties don't have the Shawinigan Handshake as their special ability.

Our unique ability giving us immunity to surprise wars should also be nullified if a pie to the face is involved.

Inca time. Pachacuti time.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=exGFiectofk
America, Canada, Cree, Aztec, Mapuche, Inca... I think this is the fullest house we've had in the Americas in Civ.
This continues the apparent trend in Gathering Storm of most of these new civs making use of normally unfriendly tiles in new and unique ways. Maori with the oceans, Canada with tundra, Inca with mountains.

Mali!

I like Mali. Those dudes know how to lay down a certified banger. I look forward to hearing their soundtrack. Anyway, they'll be a heavily economic civ.

UNIQUE DISTRICT – SUGUBA
This replacement for the Commercial Hub allows Mali to purchase Units, Buildings, and Districts at a reduced cost, with either Gold or Faith. Also provides additional Gold for adjacent Holy Sites, tiles containing a River edge, and bonus Gold for every two adjacent District tiles.
UNIQUE ABILITY – SONGS OF THE JELI
Provides City Centers with additional Faith and Food for every adjacent Desert and Desert Hills tile. Mines provide less Production to the city, but grant additional Gold output. Mali may purchase Commercial Hub district buildings with Faith, but suffer an overall Production penalty when constructing buildings or training units.
UNIQUE UNIT – MANDEKALU CAVALRY
This Medieval-era unit replaces the Knight and prevents Mali Trader units from being plundered, as long as they are on a land tile within four tiles of a Mandekalu Cavalry unit. Combat victories provide Gold equal to the unit’s base Combat Strength.
MANSA MUSA UNIQUE ABILITY – SAHEL MERCHANTS
International Trade Routes grant Gold for each flat Desert tile within the originating city’s borders, and Sahel Merchants unlocks an additional Trader slot whenever Mali enters a Golden Age.

Re: [Civilization] CANADA THOUGH
Wow yeah it continues with your observation that they're adding civs that use the difficult terrain tiles to their advantage, and this looks like Civ V's Venice without the single city limit. Gold for DAYS.

'sup Sweden.

Seems like a generalist, with fairly strong abilities in the science, culture, and diplomacy styles, and bonuses for spreading across as many kinds of terrain as possible.

Re: [Civilization] CANADA THOUGH
Yeah seems pretty cool, and they don't have the imba self healing infantry anymore which is nice (for everyone else). The Nobel Prize mechanic is interesting, I wonder which civs will have natural advantages in that.
