OWL stories a couple days into Season 2

- Dragons look worlds better, but are missing their main tank, so they still lost their opener to the Spark

- Expansion teams all look pretty strong, at least until Washington pretty predictably got smacked down by the NYXL. And the Spark are currently looking like they're gonna fall in their second game to the Valiant. But, Spark won their debut, Paris somehow beat London 3-1, Atlanta smoked Florida* 4-0, and Toronto squeaked past Houston 3-2. Chengdu and Guangzhou faced each other in their debuts and it turned into a marathon. Not bad.

- speaking of Florida, they look about as bad or worse than they did last season. Dragons may have lost, but they at least took a map, so Florida and Dallas are currently tied for "new Dragons" status.

- I don't remember who signed Dafran (another xQc-level "heated gamer moment" streamer dudebro) but someone signed Dafran. So if anyone's gonna get tilted and storm off the stage this season, look for it to be that guy. insert whatever twitch chat emote is appropriate for that, I dunno, twitch emotes are fuckin' trash

- c9 counter: at least 2, maybe 3 - even the pros play a little like my Mystery Heroes teams on occasion I guess

anyway, Dragons v. Titans are up soon, so we'll see how this new Vancouver team fares against a slightly incomplete Dragons rebuild.

There's probably proper tales of the tape out there already, but basically

- Gamsu on main tank was kinda unstoppable, perhaps kinda-sorta 'cause Boston let him go between seasons, so this was a revenge match of sorts.

- Luffy on Zenyatta was an offensive beast, dunno if I've ever seen that many big and timely long-range picks from a Zen player

- this fucking Sombra, chriiiist



just hacks upon hacks upon hacks all night, Boston never found an answer for him. if that Zen is rare, these kinda numbers from a Sombra are goddamned ludicrous even at the pro level.

so the VOD for this match is probably worth watching.

Kind of an Ana type, SMG instead of sniper rifle, primary fire is a 3-round burst hitscan, secondary lobs a healing grenade. He can crouch to charge some kind boost-jump. His main attractions skillwise are a damage-prevention field that stops any HP loss below 20 for 8 seconds and his ultimate creates an amplification field which buffs any projectile passing through it.

So, he sounds more like a strong utility support rather than a pure healing support. Those skills are going to be pretty wild though assuming they make it through PTR un-nerfed. An 8-second nigh-immortality field is gonna shut down a ton of enemy ults, Junkrat riptires and D.Va dunks, especially.

...his default skin is kinda dull and Apex-y so I hope he's got cool drops.

I can't hate the Goats meta thanks to all this wacky Reinhardt play we're seeing from the Bumpers and the Gamsus and the Amengs of the League (and lucking into triple-tank triple-support in Mystery Heroes almost guarantees me a win every single time, so)

That last part is gonna make him a real salt mine, I think, assuming folks get the timing right. Like D.Va's somewhat underused ability to vore enemy projectile ults with her Defense Matrix, just... multiplied a few times.

hell, I'll be happy just to have another character who can get over Mei's ice walls.

Baptiste feels weird. His heal on LShift is good for himself and others, like S76's, but I can't quite get a sense of its range just yet, and the healing grenades he can lob from his alt-fire don't self-heal on splash like Ana's, so it's taking me forever to remember on the fly which does what, often resulting in my death.

No Limits is up, meaning there's a lot of teams near-full of Baptistes (Bapstiste?), meaning most of my ults are getting nerfed by enemy Immortality Fields. Not at all representative of normal gameplay in any other mode, thankfully.

I might never get used to his rocket boost. Crouch to charge, then space to jump... I'd rather it be just crouch to charge, then release, without the extra keystroke, or an auto-jump when fully charged, like Doomfist's charge. Probably hard to use in combat unless yer safe on a flank. I never think to crouch normally anyway so it's never really been a natural part of my game.

His Buccaneer skin is pretty cool, otherwise his launch gallery options are all kinda meh. What's the next event, the Anniversary?

e: heh, I just noticed today's GBEast Playdate was Overwatch. They were probably checking out Baptiste so maybe I got lucky enough to get seeded into No Limits with 'em without noticing if I was on at the same time.

actually I've got melee bash on the lower thumb button, hello on the upper, and sprays on the arrow keys, but y'know

lot of the time when I'm close enough to hit anyone with melee I accidentally end up pressing both thumb buttons for the ol' Hello Punch combo
