I do enjoy the music and combat enough in HL2 to make it still a fun replay. It also really nails the setting, especially stuff within City 17 with giant bug walker things stomping around. Half Life has such good sound design, everything from the guns to the HEV suit to the monster yells to the Combine radio chatter is still iconic and I can recall them unprompted to this day.

If you're looking for a Pokemon that isn't Pokemon but is also an MMO, something called TemTem just entered Early Access on Steam. It's published by Humble so you can also get it there. Maybe it'll sneak into my subscription.

:siren DEALS POST :siren

at this point I'll probably just toss interesting deals into this thread rather than continue the old separate deals thread that always gets lost

anyway, Europa Universalis IV and pretty much all its DLC (which is a ton, a lot of it game-changingly important) is the current Humble Bundle. Several years worth of content for $17 USD, kinda doubt it's ever been cheaper.

If anyone here is into Civilization or whatever and has been looking to take the next step into big-ass stupefyingly-deep grand strategy games, this is as good a time as any. I must've lost dozens of hours to EU4 a year or two ago trying to learn the game/conquer the British Isles as Scotland/prevent the major colonial powers from fucking up the Americas and it was a really satisfying and rather confusing experience. Doubtless that'll be easier with all the DLC, I hope.

This has been a DEALS POST.

Just in case anyone preordered, keep your eye out for emails.

https://twitter.com/finalfantasyvii/sta ... 95104?s=20

Though I imagine most people preordered via Amazon for physical or via PSN for digital rather than from Square direct, which is maybe just for the super expensive collector's edition exclusive to their storefront.

So this only applies to people who pre-ordered through the Square store? I didn't even realize that was a thing, so I assume my Amazon order is still fine.

As far as I can tell, yeah. Might not hurt to keep an eye on your inbox anyway just in case.

After seven years, Kentucky Route Zero is finally complete. Today. So if you're like me and you've had it in your Steam library for several of those seven years but have been waiting all this time to run through it all in one go, welp, now you can.

It's also hitting consoles for the first time with the subtitle TV Edition.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HDbo-ElN7oU

Torchlight 3 apparently exists and is coming this summer. Previously it was some kinda free-to-play thing called Frontiers, but has been rebranded to become a proper sequel.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lnqlr7HcWyQ

I liked the original Torchlight a ton back in the day but never got around to Torchlight 2 since I vaguely remember it hitting around the same time as Diablo 3 and therefore getting almost totally ignored. I dunno if I'm likely to play this new one either but I'll keep my eye on it, even if Torchlight: Colonialism Edition is... maybe not my preferred setting for one of these games.

Would you rather have a fighting game with cats? Then maybe check out Fisti-Fluffs.

Fingers crossed the Windows beta will follow shortly.

Well, shit. I just looked, and the beta only lasts a day. That's kinda disappointing. On the plus side, I'll have the opportunity to snag a Dreamcast mag, so that's something.

Hmm, a beta period that short could imply they don't feel the need for much more stress testing, so maybe the real deal is closer than we think.

e: double hmm
NOTE: The PSO2 Closed Beta Test is only available to players in the United States and Canada. You can register for early sign-up on Windows 10, but the Closed Beta is exclusive to Xbox One.
Guess I may as well download that app even if there's no Windows date set yet.

Oh, Coffee Talk is out tomorrow.

Maybe a little like VA-11 HALL-A but you're serving coffee instead of booze and it's not written by memelord channers.

Nice! This is still the only trailer I've seen so I'm definitely eager to see more. I love visual novel-type games that are about more than just romance options.

Yeah this one's been on my radar for a while, the latte art especially seems like a fun twist.

I'll grab it for sure.

I'll probably jump in tonight if I don't hit Kentucky Route Zero first (or pass out.)

Meanwhile,

I dig how the third attack literally knocks the character on their ass, might roll Ranger just for that

There's a lot of new footage in here for something they're calling a theme song trailer. In fact I think it might all be new footage, new scenes, new character reveals. If you wanna go in cold and you can wait 'til April maybe hold off on this one.

Wow, that FF7 trailer has me hyped. But yeah... definitely not meant for people who haven't played the original game. Spoilers all over the place.

My favorite moments:
Spoiler :
The woman using that SOLDIER as a footstool made me laugh. Is that supposed the be the lady that Tifa gets into a slap fight with? Or someone new?

Barrett: "Fuck all this!"

Also, Airith is involved a lot for someone who dies so early, but I can't imagine that they'd delay or remove her death. Plus the whole Ancient reveal... they really don't give a fuck about new players with this trailer, do they?

Yep. I really like her choice of, uh, furniture. Probably means she'll somehow be even more extra than she was in the original.
Spoiler :
speaking of Extra it seems they've added quite a lot to the Honey Bee sequence :pac

seen some folks speculating that the Jenova fight might be in the Mythril Mine, which would be neat 'cause it would give that location an actual raisin to exist this time, and also widen the scope of Part 1 beyond Midgar. The scenery certainly doesn't look very city-like. I dunno though, the farther away they get from Midgar/Kalm, the farther they get from a natural cliffhanger point going into the next part. We'll see.

I like Red XIII's voice a lot.

The Trese Brothers, the guys wot did Star Traders Frontiers and a ton of other things, are kickstarting something called Cyber Knights, which looks to be a cyberpunk XCOM.

https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/tr ... er-knights

If it gets funded and avoids falling into the same memory hole as a ton of other kickstarter projects it should be very good, Trese Brothers have a great track record, and while getting into/staying into Frontiers can be difficult, their constant support and tireless update schedule turned it into something pretty special and unique. So I'd love to see that kinda dedication applied to something more accessible like an XCOM-like tactics game.

e: weirdly enough, Daemon X Machina is no longer Switch exclusive and is coming to the PC next week. Steam page is already up.

...it's still too expensive. :pac

Oh, on the topic of Switch things and kickstarters, Platinum is running one to rescue Wonderful 101 from the WiiU purgatory and put it back out as a remaster. Switch being the initial target, PC/PS4 being stretch possibilities.

https://www.polygon.com/2020/2/3/211201 ... inum-games

https://twitter.com/Nibellion/status/12 ... 01056?s=20

e: They hit their kickstarter goal in like 20 minutes. :golf

And with that, I suppose the only significant WiiU exclusive still without a modern port/sequel/remaster is, uh... Pikmin? Was there a Pikmin? I feel like Tokyo Mirage Sessions and Wonderful 101 were the last major holdouts.

I really wanted to like Wonderful 101, but that style of gameplay seriously eludes me. I could barely stand it. Maybe part of the problem was the awful Wii U controller, but I dunno. I love the aesthetic of W101 but haven't decided whether to back or not.

Hell yeah.

https://twitter.com/Nibellion/status/12 ... 64289?s=20

Only question is if the PC version will still be Windows Store exclusive for a bit before heading to Steam, but I doubt it, 'cause why bother listing Steam in the manual right away if that were the case.

...maybe this will finally bump that other thing from the top of my Steam time played list. :pacdown

I wouldn't put any actual stock in it but some folks are under the impression Atlus is looking into porting a lot of their back catalogue to the Switch. This seems to be based entirely on a customer survey, so it's nothing but potential interest, don't get nuts planning your next Revelations snow queen run or anything on account of one iffy headline at a fan site.

https://personacentral.com/atlus-ninten ... n-odyssey/

Just speaking for myself if Atlus were to decide to get Nocturne on something more recent than the PS3 that would be pretty sweet. That and the Persona 2 duology and maybe DDS and I'd be set, anything else is just gravy.
